Parent/Carer Newsletter No.61

15 June 2015 Dear Parent/Carer Celebration Assembly – Friday, 19 June 2.45pm You are invited to join us at our Celebration Assembly this Friday at 2.45pm. We look forward to welcoming you at this special event. Congratulations Year 8 students Alan Dickinson and Megan Ackers together with Callum Gregory and Kira Winstanley from Year 7, went to the Salters Festival of Chemistry last week. They came second overall in the competition they entered and won a lot of equipment for the school. Well done! ACS Library and e-Books A big thank you to those families who have sent in a number of good condition books for the library during this year – our library now has over 3,000 books and more are going on the shelves all the time. More to the point they are being used; last month 32% of students borrowed a book from the library. Thanks to another donation, we have also built up a collection of about 200 e-Books. So, for the many students who like reading on a phone or tablet, instead of asking you to pay for books, they can use the e-Platform app to download books from the ACS library. All students wanting to do this have been given a password for e-Platform but may need a bit of help or encouragement to use it the first time. Gardening equipment Our new raised beds are now full of herbs, fruit and vegetables and the students are learning about weeding, feeding and watering. If anyone has any garden tools or equipment that they no longer need – or know of someone who does – we would be enormously grateful. Just bring the items to reception, please. Sixth Form Taster Day – Thursday, 2 July This is an opportunity for prospective Sixth Form students to meet many of the teachers, find out about courses and generally get a feel for what life is like as a student with us. For any more details regarding the Sixth Form Taster Day please contact Matt Bold or Vicky Healey on 01942 885500. Last week of summer term Monday, 13 July there will be a reward trip for all students who have nil behaviour points for the last academic year. 100% attendance lunch – pupils with 100% attendance will be invited to lunch with Mrs Haddock and Mrs Bright at Frankie and Benny’s in Leigh on Tuesday, 14 July. There will be a number of Graduation trips for students to choose from this year which will all take place on Wednesday, 15 July. The Graduation Ceremony will take place on Tuesday, 14 July at 6.30pm. Yours faithfully Elizabeth Haddock EXECUTIVE PRINCIPAL
