Dear Parents, Carers and Families,

It is with great pleasure that I write to you with updates of the exciting year ahead of us here at ACS.  As you are all aware, there have been many positive changes here at the school, including changes at Senior Leadership level where we welcome Mrs Fazackerley (Miss Williams) as the Assistant Headteacher responsible for Behaviour and Welfare and Mrs Gibson as the Assistant Headteacher responsible for Teaching and Learning.  Other internal changes include:

  • Mrs Green, Head of English
  • Mr Plant, Head of Languages
  • Mr McKie, Head of Year 6 and 7
  • Mr Littler, Head of Year 8 and 9 (and attendance)
  • Mrs Foster, Head of Year 10 and 11
  • Mr Kirkpatrick – Cover supervisor
  • Mr Skinner – NQT Co-ordinator
  • Mr Parkinson – Disadvantaged Pupil Coordinator
Along with these internal changes, we also welcome the following staff to team ACS:
  • Miss Swallow – Art
  • Mrs McNamara – Drama/English
  • Mr Dennison - Humanities
  • Miss Langan – Humanities
  • Mr Norton – Humanities
  • Miss Smith– Cover Supervisor
  • Mr Gajra – Maths
  • Mrs Buck – English
  • Miss Greco – Head of Science
  • Mrs Baird – MfL
  • Miss Wright - English

I am very pleased that the school is fully staffed and able to provide the best possible education for our learners.

In our plight to raise standards and make rapid improvement, I ask that as our families you give us your full support.  The behaviour policy, which is available on our website (hard copies available on request), has been dramatically overhauled and now has a clear rewards and sanctions process detailed within it.  It is vital that we work together and develop a strong relationship, the role of families is detailed in the new policy which I ask that you familiarise yourself with it:

‘We need whole hearted support from all of the families of our students in order to maintain our high standards of behaviour and academic progress.  In choosing to attend ACS, families are making the choice to follow our behaviour systems, a system of zero tolerance and we ask that all families respect our rules and follow them’.

Please find attached to this letter our calendar which includes details about parents evenings, when you will receive reports, parent seminars and other events which you may wish to support and attend.

Communication is a priority area that we will be working to improve.  With the introduction of Parent Mail we hope to be able to provide timely reminders and updates about up and coming events, letters can be accessed in this way also.  Our social media is also being revamped and we have a very active Twitter page, @ACSpurple is updated regularly with pictures and news.  All letters can be found on our website, as can the calendar, newsletters and policies

As a Leadership team, we acknowledge that ACS is on a journey and we are keen to ensure we all travel the journey together as a community.  With a newly appointed strong team, we will continue to work tirelessly to improve key areas, not least the teaching that take place in our classrooms and the outcomes our learners leave ACS with.  Improvements are already evident in our summer examination results being an improvement on last years and some outstanding success stories within those results.

I would like to thank you in advance for your ongoing support and I look forward to welcoming you to one of our up and coming events in the near future.  Should you wish to discuss anything with either myself of Mr Layzell our Head of School, please do not hesitate in contacting us on the school number.

Yours faithfully

V J Povey

Executive Headteacher
